I can tell summer is really over for good now because all of my plants are dying despite my best efforts. My tomato and pepper plants have been non-productive for over a month now, and now all of my other plants are starting to join them, despite my efforts at keeping them watered. I have a winter black thumb, which is why I never bring my plants inside.

But with the cold also comes good things, and one of these good things that show up after the first frost is the cassoulet at North Market Poultry and Game! I first saw it last week, and have been getting it every couple of days since.

North Market Poultry & Game CassouletAt $8 for a huge serving, it’s a bargain. The mixture of white beans with a ton of different meats (like duck leg, rabbit, boar bacon, sausage, and several other things). If you get it at the market as the meal (as opposed to what was left of the $14 quart I bought, a third of which you see above), it also comes with mashed potatoes and a wonderful buttery toasted piece of Eleni Christina bread on top. The slow cooked smokiness of it is irresistable.

But I digress, I think my North Market love is showing through again. This weekend, I’m planning on doing a $40-a-day Rachael Ray type experiment staying within the walls of the North Market. I can’t wait!
