Our garden blackberries should be ready any day now. My dad always picks them to eat by themselves, sometimes with just a little cream poured over. You can't beat homegrown berries, somehow they always taste better than bought ones (and give you far more satisfaction)

The first blackberries are ripe here, but they are not traditional ones, but some hybrid, so they bloom and ripen earlier than regular ones.
That chocolate berry shortcake looks divine. (The berries are just wonderful this year, aren't they?! So simple a recipe, but so good.

Oh, that looks divine! I've never tried chocolate shortcakes. What a great idea. My strawberries from the garden are finished now and my mouth is watering for blueberries to appear at the farmers' market. Soon, I hope!

I live in Texas and my husband and I went to a farm last weekend and picked 30 pounds of blackberries!! This farm has thornless berry vines and the vines were on stakes, so we just stood there and picked away!! We put away 7 gallon bags into our freezer and gave away more to my daughters and neighbors.
