One Local Summer 2008 – Week 1

My dish for the first week of One Local Summer is a holdover from a couple of weeks ago (when we were smack dab in the middle of ramp/morel season) that I haven’t had a chance to blog about quite yet – but it truly is my first all-local meal of the year.

The ribeye steak is from OMC Farms, who sell at both the Worthington and Clintonville Farmer’s Markets. It’s topped with Sauteed Morel Mushrooms (from Wish Well Farms, who sell at the North Market and Worthington), that were sauteed in Ohio Amish butter (which I purchased at Cafagna’s on 161). The potatoes are from H-W Organics (purchased at the Worthington Farmer’s Market), which were made with more of that Amish butter and with cream from Snowville Creamery (available from the Greener Grocer in the North Market). The ramps (local, were available a few weeks ago at The Greener Grocer and at Weiland’s) were simply sauteed in some more of that Amish butter until they caramelized, and then I threw in just a pinch of non-local sugar.

Truly simple and definitely delicious. And now that the growing season is well under way, won’t have a problem whipping up more local dishes. I’m truly looking forward to the challenge.
