a full, vivid description. And it provides a good example of why some of us are vegetarians. Thanks for being so honest about the experience of killing a living entity, and how it felt to you as the slaughterer. Doesn't that give you a bit of a pause? Rather than simply avoiding the entire issue by choosing not to know how the food on your plate got there, and where it came from?

"Intellectually, I know that a chicken’s purpose in life is to provide food to us (both through eggs and through the sacrifice of their own life)"

That is the most disturbing thing that I have read in a long time. You are insane.

Yikes. I'm totally on board with the whole knowing where your food comes from thing, and people probably should experience this once. I'm not sure how squeamish I'd be about killing a chicken (I hadn't thought about a lamb... good Lord), but I suspect I'd be pretty incompetent at it, so I'd probably either let the pros go at it or choose the quickest, least screw-uppable method so as to minimize the suffering of whatever poor animal was slated for my plate.

This was very educational, even just to read. I do agree that it is important for everyone to have this experience once, but I really don't know if I could actually go through with it myself!
