For this week’s Tuesdays with Dorie, our assignment was to make Dorie’s double-crusted blueberry pie. I was really tired last night, so I passed this one off to Paul, who followed the directions to a T. I was really looking forward to this one, as we have tons of blueberries at the farmer’s market, and there’s nothing better than making a fruit pie when that fruit is in season.
I hate to say it, but I didn’t like this pie – at all. The crust was fine, but it was too citrusy (I like to be able to taste the blueberries first and they were in the background to the lemon), and the breadcrumbs made the crust and filling taste mealy and mushy. I much prefer a pie made with cornstarch, even if the filling runs a bit more. I guess I’m a purist like that.
I’ve got to say, my luck with Dorie’s recipes is hit or miss – mostly misses. I’m beginning to wonder if it’s her recipes or my taste…
Note: Ever since I upgraded to the new version of WordPress, it won’t let me resize the pictures, and Flickr’s default medium is too big – so until I either change my theme or figure out what I’m doing wrong, my pictures will be much smaller. Sorry about that.
