RIP: The Dog Joint

Author: swampkitty05  //  Category: Columbus, Restaurant News

I read today in ThisWeek News that The Dog Joint in Westerville closed last month. I visited it once, last summer, and found it to be fair to middlin’. Not bad enough to slaughter them in a review, but not good enough to recommend. I had wanted to go back and give it another try before writing a review (which I like to do, if I can afford it), but it looks like I’ll never get the chance.

So this post is for people who were fans.

Their Windy City dog was pretty great….as good as many other Chicago dogs I’ve had in town.

Didn’t like the Southern Belle at all, because the cole slaw was pretty flavorless.

The Chili Cheese Fries were pretty good – between me and my dining companion, we polished them off in no time flat.

My beef with the South of the Border dog is that if I have cheese on hot dogs, I like it to be melted. Otherwise, a decent offering.

But whose bright idea was a Hawaiian dog? Absolutely disgusting.

I’m looking forward to trying the restaurant they put in its place. Did you enjoy this restaurant? Are you sad to see them go?

    Hi,
Thanks for commenting on my Nursing post on Monday. I do hope you have better luck in Bio/chem than I did. Hehe! My Bro-in-law is a CRNA and loves it. It will be a lot of hard work but it sounds like you have the knack for it already. Oh great site you have here!

It's really a shame, you hate to see casual family restaurants close like this. If you are per se a themed restaurant like this, "hotdogs" you have GOT to make sure EVERTHING is on the money! Use the best products and day in and out serve those meals hot!
I really think restaurants have a hard time serving their food hot. I don't need to see steam coming off the plate, I don't need the roof of my mouth burned, I just want the meal at a decent hot temp.
    Just saying……..

I loved the Dog Joint, things were not perfect but it was a great restaurant to have in Uptown Westerville. It doesn't look like you tried the onion rings, ummm, those were excellent, much better than the fries I thought. There is another restaurant taking it's place, hope it lasts.

I made a short write-up on them a little over 10 months ago. I liked it and will be sad to see it go. Maybe Westerville will have a decent beer place land there instead. I'd love to see a brewpub open. Alas not mine, not yet :)
